Traditional Chinese medicine suffers "mass extinction"
Disaster history of traditional Chinese medicine: five times in history to abolish the dispute of traditional Chinese medicine! Traditional Chinese medicine suffers "mass extinction"
"Some of the experience passed down by the ancients is extremely precious, because it has cost a lot of sacrifices and left great benefits to future generations. I accidentally read "Compendium of Materia Medica", and I can't help but think of this."
——Lu Xun's "Experiences of "Southern Accents and Northern Dialects"
Today's article begins with an article by Lu Xun, a well-known "anti-Chinese medicine" person in modern Chinese history. Lu Xun once left a sentence in "The Preface to <Scream>": "Chinese medicine is just a liar, intentionally or unintentionally." This sentence was regarded as a standard by Chinese medicine practitioners, but Lu Xun later changed his attitude towards Chinese medicine.
Different from many staunch "Chinese medicine blacks", with the growth of age and experience, Lu Xun has a greater understanding of traditional Chinese medicine because of the "holding waist dragon" who was once cured by Chinese herbal medicine and the curative effect of some Chinese herbal medicines he witnessed with his own eyes. Rational and comprehensive cognition.
So there is the beginning of the article. Lu Xun believes that Chinese medicine represented by "Compendium of Materia Medica" and the experience passed down by many ancients are "extremely valuable".
As a typical figure who "abandoned medicine and followed literature" in modern times, Lu Xun's attitude towards Chinese medicine actually represented the attitude of a large part of the so-called "thinkers" and "scholars" at that time, who were actually immersed in Western thought. It is this group of people who have repeatedly hindered the inheritance and development of Chinese medicine, and even have extremely sinister intentions to completely "exterminate" Chinese medicine.
In the century of modern history, Chinese medicine has experienced as many as five catastrophes of "extinction"!
1. The No. 1 Difficulty in the Survival of Traditional Chinese Medicine, "Abandoned Medicine" published by Yu Yue in the late Qing Dynasty
In 1879, Yu Yue, a master of Pu Xue in the late Qing Dynasty, published "On the Abolition of Medicine", which clearly put forward the idea of abolishing traditional Chinese medicine. Yu Yue's proposition is that "Chinese medicine can be discarded, but medicine cannot be completely discarded". It can be said that Yu Yue is the initiator of the abolition of traditional Chinese medicine in modern China.
As a famous master of Chinese studies in the late Qing Dynasty, Yu Yue wrote "Chunzaitang Quanshu". But what is puzzling is that in addition to treating classics, he has also studied Chinese medicine and can treat diseases with prescriptions. At the same time, Yu Yue also made notes on "Plain Questions".
Generally speaking, people who are familiar with Chinese medicine should be more respectful of Chinese medicine, but Yu Yue used textual research methods to "explore and search for concealment" and "distinguish right from wrong" in the classic work of Chinese medicine "Huangdi Neijing", which is based on his understanding of Chinese medicine. To support his idea of "abandoning medicine and saving medicine".
In this regard, "Chinese Medicine Culture" once published an article signed by Sheng Lan and commented: "Only from the perspective of textual research, from ancient books to ancient books, from documents to documents, but turn a blind eye to the practice of ancient and modern medicine, and listen to it, it will inevitably lead to violations. The wrong views of science, drawing ridiculous conclusions."
Although Yu Yue wrote and disseminated his attitude towards traditional Chinese medicine with the opinion of a scholar for a while, he may not have realized at that time that his remarks would have a profound impact on the survival and development of traditional Chinese medicine in later generations. However, as a master of Chinese studies, Yu Yue's influence was not only in the contemporary era, but also had a deep-rooted influence on future generations of students.
Even in the subsequent several times of large-scale extermination of traditional Chinese medicine in modern times, the influence of Yu Yue can be found by tracing its source.
2. The second difficulty in the survival of traditional Chinese medicine: the Beiyang government "leaves out the case of traditional Chinese medicine in the education system"
In 1912, during the rule of the Beiyang government, the government at that time passed and subsequently promulgated the "New Education Act of the Republic of China" at the first interim education meeting of the Ministry of Education on the grounds that Chinese and Western medicine "combined difficulties". The "Decree" was promulgated twice (November 1912 and January 1913), neither of which listed "Chinese Medicine" as an educational subject, but only advocated specialized Western medicine schools. This is the famous "education system omission of TCM cases" in modern history.
The promulgation of the "Decree" caused an uproar at the time, and the Chinese medicine community protested one after another. Yuan Guisheng, the founder of the Yangzhou Chinese and Western Medicine Research Association, first protested: "The Ministry of Education stipulated that the deletion of Chinese medicine subjects in the curriculum of Chinese medicine schools is tolerable, and it is unbearable to be familiar with it." At that time, representatives of the Beijing Medical Association rushed into the Ministry of Education, Asked the Ministry of Education to explain and file a case for the "Beijing Medical Association", which was explicitly rejected by Wang Daxie, who was then the chief education officer of the Beiyang government.
The second "Decree" issued in 1913 still excluded Chinese medicine from the education system. In October of the same year, Yu Botao, president of the Shanghai Shenzhou Pharmaceutical Federation, and other people from 19 provinces and cities across the country, together with the Chinese medicine circles, Tongrentang, Xihe Niantang and other pharmaceutical professionals, organized a "Petition for National Salvation by Medicine" and recommended representatives to go to Beijing to petition and demand education. The ministry established a specialized school of traditional Chinese medicine.
Before Shanghai representative Ye Jinshu left Shanghai to appeal in Beijing, Bao Shisheng and Yu Botao of the Shanghai "Shenzhou Pharmaceutical Federation" held a farewell party for him. Yu Botao pointed out to the representatives: "This petition in Beijing is something that has never happened in my country's medical industry for thousands of years. It is a major pioneering work to save my country's medicine. It has a great relationship with the future of medicine in the future. perseverance and indomitable spirit to achieve the goal of preserving traditional Chinese medicine.”
After all kinds of twists and turns, when the representatives were finally received by Wang Daxie, who was the chief education officer of the Beiyang government at the time, they were told face to face: "Yu decided to abolish traditional Chinese medicine in the future and not to use traditional Chinese medicine. The so-called filing of a case is difficult to approve."
In just a few words, the world of Chinese medicine is utterly chilled!
The first battle in the Chinese medicine field has failed like this!
At that time, the strong ships and guns of the West opened the door to China, and the thought of spreading Western learning to the east penetrated into every aspect of the Chinese people. From the eyes of the rulers at that time, Chinese medicine has become a dross that has been discarded like a shoe. The original national treasure was blatantly abandoned, but now it seems that every word is heartbreaking. The sincere representatives of the Chinese medicine community at that time heard that life would be worse than death!
3. The third difficulty in the survival of traditional Chinese medicine Nanjing government proposed "abolition of traditional Chinese medicine case"
The wheel of history is rolling, and the ruling government at that time has been changed, but the desire to exterminate Chinese medicine is still passed down by those with ulterior motives, and the evil intentions are not dead.
As mentioned above, even if the thoughts of Yu Yue, the first person who "abandoned Chinese medicine" in modern times, did not cause the complete extinction of Chinese medicine at that time, the subsequent disasters of Chinese medicine were inseparable from it.
Zhang Taiyan is Yu Yue's favorite student. He is proficient in medicine and has left many medical treatises. His "On the Indefinite Theory of the Five Zang-Organs Attached to the Five Elements" denies the theory of the Five Elements and advocates its complete abandonment. Zhang Taiyan did not have a strong tendency to abolish medicine, but he influenced a group of students studying in Japan during his lectures in Japan, the most representative of whom was Yu Yunxiu, a leader in the abolition of traditional Chinese medicine during the Republic of China.
Yu Yunxiu is no stranger to anyone who understands the modern history of Chinese medicine. Compared with his "master" Yu Yue, Yu Yunxiu's harm to Chinese medicine can be said to be more than that. He has always attacked and belittled Chinese medicine, equating Chinese medicine with witchcraft, and even pointed out that "Chinese medicine is the culprit of murder", and he must abolish it and eliminate it quickly.
In 1925, the Chinese educational circles decided to incorporate Chinese medicine into the school system. It should have been a good time to correct the wrong medical education system of the Beiyang government, but when this matter was submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval, the Western medical community represented by Yu Yunxiu wrote to the Ministry of Education and resolutely resisted it.
Using this as an excuse, the Ministry of Education categorically rejected the request for Chinese medicine to be admitted to university departments. Therefore, the conflict between Chinese and Western medicine has further deepened, which has triggered the largest dispute over the preservation and abolition of traditional Chinese medicine in the 20th century.
From February 23 to 26, 1929, the Ministry of Health of the Nanjing Government held the first Central Health Committee. Four proposals on "abolition of traditional Chinese medicine" were discussed at the meeting, and finally the case of abolishing traditional Chinese medicine - "Regulating Principles of Registration of Old Doctors" was passed. Among the people who participated in this meeting, no one is a practitioner of Chinese medicine, and most of them advocate the destruction of Chinese medicine. The meeting was presided over by Liu Ruiheng, the deputy minister of the Ministry of Health of the Nanjing government who holds real power. Liu Ruiheng used to be the dean of Union Medical College, and he was the one who wanted to eliminate Chinese medicine.
In fact, the proposal intends to gradually eliminate Chinese medicine within 50 years. One is to let them die of old age, so that Chinese medicine will die out naturally; Therefore, Yu Yunxiu was ridiculed by later generations as a "slave of eastern and western medicine" and became a sinner through the ages.
Once the bill is implemented, it will be a matter of time before the abolition of traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, after the announcement of the bill and Yu Yunxiu's "Abolishing the Old Doctors to Remove Obstacles to Medical Hygiene", it immediately met with strong resistance from the Chinese medicine community, and also aroused strong repercussions from all walks of life.
At that time, Bao Shisheng, a famous Chinese doctor in Shanghai, was very angry and shouted: "Chinese medicine is national medicine and a treasure of the traditional Chinese culture. How can it be dismissed as feudal superstition and old medicine? To support Chinese medicine is to maintain our The quintessence of the country, the banning of traditional Chinese medicine is the death of the people who are sick. Your central officials don’t need it, but the common people need it! The future generations of the Chinese nation need it. We must swear to protect Chinese medicine!”
The "Traditional Chinese Medicine Rescue Group" went out again, and this time the Chinese medicine community joined hands!
On March 17 (the origin of the National Medical Day), more than 200 groups and 300 representatives from 17 provinces and cities across the country gathered in Shanghai to hold a meeting against the abolition of traditional Chinese medicine. During the 3-day meeting, several proposals were passed. Then organize people to go to the government to petition.
In the end, Chairman Jiang of the National Government had to suspend the abolition of the medical case.
The field of traditional Chinese medicine has won a big victory. This is the most influential "nursing doctor" movement that year. To commemorate the victory of the struggle, the conference determined March 17 as the anniversary of the great unity of the Chinese medicine community - National Medical Day.
The "Abolition of Traditional Chinese Medicine Case" has left enough observation angles for future generations, which is still unforgettable!
4. The fourth difficulty in the survival of traditional Chinese medicine is the decision of the National Health Conference to abolish traditional Chinese medicine in the early days of the founding of New China
The fourth catastrophe in which Chinese medicine was almost abolished occurred in the early days of the founding of New China. Moreover, Yu Yunxiu is more than 90 years old, but he still spares no effort to eliminate Chinese medicine.
In 1950, Yu Yunxiu put forward a draft titled "Implementation Steps for Renovating Old Doctors" at the National Health Work Conference. The draft changes "abolition" into "reform", proposing to transform Chinese medicine into Western medicine.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health also mixed in Yu Yunxiu's unified thinking of "traditional Chinese medicine harm". The then deputy minister of the Central Ministry of Health Wang Bin proposed that Chinese medicine is a feudal medicine and should be eliminated with the elimination of feudal society. It is stipulated that Chinese medicine practitioners are not allowed to enter the hospital; to enter the hospital, one must learn knowledge of Western medicine, including anatomy and so on. At the same time, a Chinese medicine training school was established, allowing Chinese medicine practitioners to learn Western medicine and anatomy.
Unlike the government of the Republic of China, the Communist Party of China has experienced the lack of medical care and medicine for the masses, and insisted on correct understanding and leadership of traditional culture. This time, it was not deceived by "Chinese medicine black" and "Chinese medicine harm".
As early as 1927, Mao Zedong pointed out: "Hospitals should employ Chinese medicine practitioners, establish a Chinese medicine department, and organize personnel to collect Chinese herbal medicines. We must pay attention to herbal medicine and herbal medicine. The enemy cannot block us. We should treat the wounded and sick with Chinese and Western methods." .”
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the central government was outraged by Vice Ministers of Health Wang Bin and He Cheng's serious use of power to exclude and destroy Chinese medicine practitioners, and both vice ministers were dismissed. Learn from history! The Deputy Minister of Health was dismissed, he is the first person to suppress Chinese medicine!
This time there is no need for the "Chinese Medicine Pleading Group", but Deng Tietao, a master of traditional Chinese medicine, also played a great role in his generous letter to the central government.
5. The latest difficulty in the survival of Chinese medicine: In 2006, Zhang Gongyao published "Farewell to Traditional Chinese Medicine"
Since the founding of New China, after eradicating people with ulterior motives who intended to use their power to abolish TCM in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, New China has always supported and developed TCM.
However, with the development of information technology and the access to the Internet, Western thoughts have quietly poured into the minds of Chinese people in another form of "hard boats and guns". At this time, some Western "experts" and "scholars" once again focused on traditional Chinese medicine. Among them, an article "Farewell to Traditional Chinese Medicine" by Zhang Gongyao, Institute of Science, Technology and Social Development, Central South University, once again set off a wave of extinction of traditional Chinese medicine. .
Zhang Gongyao denies that Chinese medicine is more thorough than Yu Yunxiu and his ilk. He not only believes that Chinese medicine is unscientific, but also that Chinese medicine is full of dirt, foreign matter and poison. Not only Chinese medicine, but Chinese medicine must be abolished.
He said: "Most of the concepts and statements of Chinese medicine have no empirical basis", and even empirical medicine is not enough; there are many "good prescriptions" and "proven prescriptions" in various Chinese medicine literature, but there are no reliable clinical trials According to the basis and medical theory... etc. etc., Zhang Gongyao's purpose is very clear and undisguised, that is to "say goodbye to traditional Chinese medicine".
Zhang Gongyao's so-called "farewell" is a farewell to burying Chinese medicine in a grave and never seeing it in the world; it is a farewell to eradicating traditional Chinese cultural treasures represented by Chinese medicine after the infiltration of Western thought.
"Farewell to Traditional Chinese Medicine" awakens people from a state of numbness to the dying situation of Chinese medicine: Chinese medicine is indeed about to end, if we don't save it!
The development of the Internet has also given the Chinese medicine community an opportunity and channel to speak out. Searching for refutations related to "Farewell to Chinese Medicine" on academic websites yields as many as 150,000, which shows that the academic community is also very resistant to Zhang Gongyao's actions.
Traditional Chinese medicine was born in Qihuang, inherited in the ups and downs of history, and has been protecting the health of Chinese people for thousands of years.
Looking back at the history of the persecution of traditional Chinese medicine that almost lost its inheritance in modern times, the author can't help but feel indignant about it. As of now, I can't help feeling angry in my chest and tears in my eyes.
Professor Zhang Qicheng of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine once said in the book "The Existence of Traditional Chinese Medicine": "Chinese medicine itself has a set of theoretical structure and historical inheritance for thousands of years. He 'forgot' his own words, but tried hard to turn to another language system to prove his legitimacy and truthfulness... On the surface, it became scientific, but in essence, the core of traditional Chinese medicine melted away."
In order to inherit Chinese medicine and prevent the "ablation" of Chinese medicine, in this article, the official account of Phoenix Chinese Medicine will briefly review the five "disasters" that Chinese medicine has faced. It is to record the development of traditional Chinese medicine, and also to expose the evil face of traditional Chinese medicine.
At present, the development of traditional Chinese medicine has risen to the national strategy! On the road of development, we are not afraid of misunderstandings, blackmail in Chinese medicine, and disputes over whether Chinese medicine is scientific or not. The most frightening thing comes from the inside of Chinese medicine—those who do not understand Chinese medicine but set the wrong development direction for Chinese medicine and manage Chinese medicine with Western thinking. people.
I would like to use history as a guide and literature as a mirror! I hope that Chinese medicine practitioners will actively forward it and shout for Chinese medicine! A two-pronged approach will allow Chinese medicine to flourish towards a more harmonious and broader future!
