At about 22:00 on March 20, 1992, the defendant Ma Jigang found the victim Lin in the classroom of the former Nanjing Medical College at No. 140 Hanzhong Road, Nanjing City. There was forced sexual intercourse in the courtyard. During the period, due to resistance, Lin was hit on the head with an iron rod many times. Later, because he was worried that the crime would be exposed, Ma Jigang dragged Lin to the outside of the teaching building, put Lin into the inspection well with his head down, covered the manhole cover, and then threw Lin's schoolbags, books, clothes and other belongings into another inspection well next to him. Inside. After committing the crime, Ma Jigang fled the scene when he was interrogated by the school guards because of his suspicious appearance. On March 24 of the same year, Lin's body was found.

The court held that the defendant Ma Jigang intentionally and illegally deprived others of their lives, resulting in the death of one person; and raped women by means of violence and coercion. His behavior had violated the provisions of the 1979 Criminal Law and constituted the crime of intentional homicide and rape. After discussion and decision by the judicial committee, the defendant Ma Jigang committed the crime of intentional homicide and was sentenced to death and deprived of political rights for life; for rape, he was sentenced to seven years in prison and decided to execute the death penalty and deprived of political rights for life. Supplementary Civil Suit Plaintiff Zhu Moumou (Lin's mother) filed an incidental civil suit request, which was supported by the court in accordance with the law.

1992年3月20日22时许，被告人麻继钢在南京市汉中路140号原南京医学院校园内，发现被害人林某独自在教室自习，遂持铁棍将林某胁迫至该教学楼天井处强行发生性关系，期间因遭到反抗，用铁棍多次击打林某头部。后因担心罪行败露，麻继钢将林某拖至教学楼外，将林某头朝下投入窨井后盖上井盖，后又将林某的书包、书本、衣物等随身物品投入旁边另一窨井内。作案后，麻继钢因形迹可疑被校卫队员盘查时逃离现场。同年3月24日，林某的尸体被发现。

法院认为，被告人麻继钢故意非法剥夺他人生命，致一人死亡;以暴力、胁迫手段强奸妇女，其行为已触犯1979年《刑法》的规定，构成故意杀人罪、强奸罪。经审判委员会讨论决定，被告人麻继钢犯故意杀人罪，判处死刑，剥夺政治权利终身；犯强奸罪，判处有期徒刑七年，决定执行死刑，剥夺政治权利终身。附带民事诉讼原告人朱某某（林某母亲）提起的附带民事诉讼请求，法院依法予以支持。
