TCM Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

On the rise in the most technologically advanced US in the world

There are TCM clinics in every state in the United States. In big cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, there are hundreds of TCM clinics. At present, there are 8,000 TCM clinics in the United States. Some ports in the United States almost all import Chinese medicinal materials, and their high quality and fine processing are also praised by people. The reporter went overseas many times and stayed there for several months. There is no doubt that he saw and felt that the optimistic situation of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in the United States is irreversible. In countries such as the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland in Europe, TCM clinics are dotted all over, and the prospects are gratifying.

Exterior view of a TCM acupuncture clinic in the United States

In fact, although the United States has the most developed Western medicine and the most sound medical system in the world, it cannot solve the two major limitations of Western medicine at all.

One is the high rate of misdiagnosis, abuse of western medicine, side effects of western medicine and drug resistance. In the United States, 1 million hospitalized patients are victimized by adverse drug reactions every year, and up to 180,000 people die every year.

Second, Western medicine in the United States has no good solutions to many chronic diseases, senile diseases, and a large number of difficult and miscellaneous diseases, and these diseases account for more than 70% of the total number of human diseases.

Facing the reality, the United States and other Western developed countries have reformed the current health care system on the one hand, and expanded the scope of benefits for citizens. On the other hand, promote and encourage traditional medical methods such as acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and gradually incorporate them into the medical and health security systems of Western countries.

The status of acupuncture and moxibustion in the American medical system has changed from being completely outside the system to being a supplement that hits the door. Now it has gradually stepped into this door and become a part of the American medical system. Its position in the entire medical system is also getting higher and higher. Many Americans even said when they were studying Chinese medicine: The motivation for learning acupuncture is because acupuncture is the most popular alternative therapy in the United States, "I have been looking for the most holistic way of practicing medicine"!

Now American acupuncturists have a master's degree, but it is said that there will be changes in the next 10 years, and eventually acupuncturists are very likely to have a doctorate. Among the acupuncturists who graduated from Chinese medicine colleges certified by the National Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), about 25% are Chinese, 20% are Korean, and 55% are white. This data makes me see that more and more Westerners are learning Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion. At present, there are about 50,000 practicing acupuncturists in the acupuncture field in the United States, of which less than 30% are Chinese. It can be seen that TCM acupuncture has a broad space for development in the United States.

It is said that Western medicine hospitals in the United States did not accept Chinese medicine in the past, but now the change is that patients are often introduced to Chinese medicine and advised to try Chinese medicine, and some hospitals have also set up acupuncture departments. Treat patients. More and more acupuncture and moxibustion treatments have been included in the clinical treatment guidelines of American medicine, and acupuncture and moxibustion are included in the first-line treatment for low back pain diseases.

The development speed of Chinese medicine and acupuncture in the United States is amazing. The acceptance and welcome procedures of the American people are second only to Western medicine, and more than 50 states in the United States have promulgated the "Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Act", which provides formal legal protection for Chinese medicine and allows more The original Chinese medicine practitioners joined the ranks of American Chinese medicine practitioners. In the United States, a doctor is a very lucrative position with an average salary of more than 60,000 to 100,000 US dollars. The salaries of traditional Chinese medicine and traditional western medicine are comparable, and the annual salary is also more than 60,000 to 100,000 US dollars. It is not uncommon for professional TCM physicians to be paid more than 200,000 US dollars. Of course, we still get a salary. There are not a few Chinese medicine practitioners who open private clinics in the United States, and their annual income is more than one million US dollars, which is coveted! It can also be seen from this that Chinese medicine is definitely not as popular as Western medicine in the United States.

In the United States, the fee for an acupuncture session is generally US$50 to US$100 (equivalent to RMB 400 to 700). to over $150,000.

A mainland Chinese medicine doctor living far away in the United States, who is introverted and doesn't like to show off, let alone put himself in the same way as Chinese people. With his solid knowledge of Chinese medicine, he opened a Chinese medicine acupuncture clinic in Austin, Texas. As time went by, more and more patients in the clinic snowballed, and some even flew from big cities such as Houston and Danas to see a doctor. Among them were members of the US Congress.

More and more Americans like Chinese medicine

Irene, an American female student who is studying Chinese medicine. Her mother is an acupuncturist who opened a clinic in the United States. She said: "Some young Chinese friends think that Chinese medicine is outdated and the curative effect is not good. If you want to see a doctor, it is best to find Western medicine. Mainly young people in China are not confident enough in their own things. Chinese medicine can help many people, sometimes better than western medicine.”

When some Chinese friends said to her: "Why study Chinese medicine?", Irene would always talk about the magic of Chinese medicine, which can treat many diseases that Western medicine cannot. Some patients feel stomach pain and stomach acid distension, and they can't find anything wrong with the film. Western medicine doctors say that there is no problem and let the patient go home. Traditional Chinese medicine can diagnose "non-disease" through "seeing, smelling and asking", and intervene in advance to adjust treatment. Acupuncture is very popular in Europe, even more popular than in China. Experienced doctors charge $100 to $200 for an acupuncture session in the United States. Erin said that her mother was inexperienced and only charged $60 for one acupuncture treatment.

Did the appearance of "Philippine Fish" covered in cupping jars make you stunned? The picture above calls out your memory. According to "Flying Fish", the secret to his gold medal is cupping!

American male gymnast ALEX posted a photo of cupping on his Instagram. He said in an interview with "USA Today": "Cupping is my secret weapon to keep me healthy this year. It is more effective than anything else I have spent money on before." The treatment is all good!"

Cleveland Hospital, one of the top 3 top hospitals in the United States, has opened a Chinese medicine clinic.

In late 2012, (Sub. H.B. 251) was passed in the Ohio State Assembly almost unanimously (32 to 1 in the Senate, 93 to 0 in the House of Representatives). The law stipulates that "Practitioners of Eastern medicine may use herbal remedies in their practice, including the use of food, herbs, vitamins, minerals, organ extracts and homeopathy". After a year of preparation, the Cleveland Clinic opened a TCM outpatient clinic, becoming the leader in adopting TCM in large comprehensive medical institutions in the United States.

A Chinese medicine doctor immigrated to the United States. Because of the demonization of Chinese medicine in China, he thought that Americans did not believe in Chinese medicine, and he was trembling. It turns out that Americans have a high degree of recognition of TCM. This heart was slowly let go. The environment for Chinese medicine in the United States is very relaxed. He opened a Chinese medicine acupuncture clinic, and the daily number of American patients is very large, accounting for more than 90%.

The U.S. military is extensively researching and using acupuncture and moxibustion in traditional Chinese medicine

October 2010 U.S. Department of Defense Report: Doctors Are Using Acupuncture as Their Newest Battlefield Tool!

In February 2012, the world-renowned NPR (American Public Radio) reported that the U.S. military debunked the remarks on acupuncture and moxibustion. The underlined text above means: I've had a lot of pain treatments and this acupuncture treatment is my favorite of all because I've really felt a huge difference.

In April 2011, the world-renowned "Wall Street Journal" reported: Can acupuncture relieve the pain of wounded soldiers? U.S. military doctors in Afghanistan are using acupuncture to treat brain injuries with promising results.

When the US "Wall Street Journal" interviewed Stuessi, a US military doctor in the field, Stuess said: What we can say is: "We have learned acupuncture to treat pain from the Chinese. They have used acupuncture for thousands of years."

At present, Chinese medicine and acupuncture are blooming all over the world

There is about 1 TCM or acupuncture clinic for every 15,000 people in Germany, about 8,000 acupuncture clinics in the United States, about 1,600 TCM clinics in the Netherlands, about 2,800 acupuncture clinics in France, and more than 3,000 TCM clinics in Australia. 3000 acupuncture clinics.

TCM medical institutions are located in more than 160 countries or regions around the world, in Japan, North Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Austria, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Cuba, etc. Some hospitals in the country have optional acupuncture, massage, traditional Chinese medicine departments or pain clinics, providing health care services to tens of millions of patients from various countries every year.

But we ourselves are over-westernized, traditional Chinese medicine techniques are weakened, and brain drain is lost. The reasons for this are worth pondering!
