Generative AI on the wind: the position is popular, and the annual salary is one million风口上的生成式AI:岗位吃香,年薪百万
Since March this year, with the continued popularity of the ChatGPT application, the AIGC field has seen unprecedented competition for talents.
Not only Baidu, Meituan, Tencent, Kuaishou, Pinduoduo, ByteDance, Xiaohongshu, Chinese Online, Ant Group and other Internet giants are rich and powerful, AI companies, AI research institutions, mobile phone giants, SaaS service providers, technology education companies, Game companies, investment institutions, etc. have also marked AIGC-related positions with high salaries.
According to the statistics of Zhishi, as of May 9, there are 204 AIGC-related recruitment positions (including technical and non-technical talents) disclosed on domestic recruitment websites BOSS Zhipin, 51job, Liepin APP, and Maimai. Among them, the highest monthly salary of AIGC-oriented visual algorithm experts reaches 200,000 yuan, and the highest annual salary reaches about 3.2 million yuan; non-technical positions are also marked with a maximum annual salary of 1.5 million yuan.
This statistics only covers job requirements for which the company clearly marked AIGC-related words in the recruitment announcement. Specifically, technical positions are dominated by algorithm engineer positions, while non-technical recruitment is dominated by operations, product managers, creative design, etc.; the largest number of positions are located in Beijing, reaching 86, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of positions. The second highest is Shanghai, with 46 jobs, accounting for nearly 25% of the total.
AIGC, represented by ChatGPT, is detonating a new round of technological revolution. Many technology companies have set off a "thousand-model war". From large-scale model research and development to AIGC commercialization, they are facing a huge talent gap. The number of recruits and salary levels for related positions are rising. According to the "2023 First Quarter AIGC Talent Supply and Demand Report" released by Lagou Recruitment on April 21, in March this year, the demand for AIGC talent positions increased by 42% month-on-month, and 25% of AIGC algorithm engineer positions had a monthly salary of more than 68K. From April 17th to May 7th, the Liepin APP launched the AIGC recruitment session, setting up a special area for AIGC-related positions.
So, under the pressure of AIGC, which positions are big technology companies and start-up companies investing heavily in recruiting talents? To what extent has the salary level of relevant talents been pushed up? Which AIGC technical and non-technical positions are currently the most popular? In order to intuitively show the current situation of AIGC talent demand, Zhishi has specially compiled the latest recruitment job information marked with "AIGC" on mainstream domestic recruitment websites.
01
Beijing becomes AIGC recruitment focus
More than 130 positions with an annual income of more than 500,000 yuan
Since the beginning of this year, ChatGPT, a phenomenon-level chat robot product, has detonated the AIGC industry, and the demand for talent recruitment has been released together, and many jobs with an annual salary of over one million have been released.
From the perspective of the annual salary level of the recruitment positions, as of May 9, there are currently 28 recruiting positions with an annual salary of more than 1 million yuan, of which the highest annual salary is 3.2 million yuan. Recruitment requirements for visual algorithm experts in the direction of AIGC. This position requires job seekers to have 5-10 years of work experience, and a doctorate in computer, mathematics and other related majors, and have published papers in well-known international conferences in related fields.
▲Requirements for recruitment of visual algorithm experts in the AIGC direction of drafting technology
Among the remaining 27 positions with an annual salary of RMB 1-2 million, 22 are related to technology, and 5 non-technical positions are related to AIGC products. Such as Baidu's AI senior product manager, ByteDance's international senior product manager, the convener of AI innovative products released online in Chinese, and the person in charge of Bixin AI's AIGC products, etc.
The positions with an annual salary of 500,000 to 1 million yuan are the most recruited positions, reaching 103, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of recruited positions. Compared with the positions in the annual salary range of 1 million, there are more types of positions in this part, but the recruitment demand for technical positions is still greater than that of non-technical positions. Among them, there are 64 technical positions and 39 non-technical positions. In non-technical positions, in addition to product managers, there are also some jobs involving content creativity, such as Baidu's AIGC business group-AI painting innovation direction product manager.
There are 54 other positions with an annual salary of 200,000 to 500,000 yuan, accounting for about 27% of the total, and the gap between the number of technical and non-technical positions has become smaller, 25:29.
There are 19 positions with an annual salary of less than 200,000 yuan, and the demand for non-technical positions far exceeds that of technical positions, 12 and 7 respectively.
Judging from the distribution of recruited work locations, the work locations are mainly concentrated in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. Among them, Beijing has the largest number of 86, accounting for nearly half of the total number of recruits, Shanghai has 46, and Shenzhen and Hangzhou have 23. Followed by Chengdu (7), Guangzhou (6), Wuhan (6), Xiamen (4), Chongqing, Hengyang, Kunming, Nanjing, Qingdao, Xi'an, Changsha, Quanzhou, Shaoxing are only 1.
It is worth noting that the Lagou Recruitment report shows that in the first quarter of this year, Hangzhou accounted for 8% of AIGC jobs, a year-on-year increase of 3%, making it the city with the fastest growth rate.
02
Technologists are still hot
The highest annual salary is more than 3 million
As of May 9, among the recruited AIGC positions, technical talents involved algorithm engineers, CV (computer vision) algorithm engineers, deep learning algorithm engineers, NLP (natural language processing) algorithm engineers, front-end and back-end developers, etc.
From the perspective of specific recruitment requirements, technical AIGC talents all have 3-5 years or 5-10 years of work experience requirements, and most companies also mark that they have project implementation experience and have published papers in international conferences.
There are 4 positions with an annual salary of more than 1.5 million yuan, namely drafting technology, a commercial visual online design platform, Bixin, a game social platform, and Chinese online, a leading Chinese digital publishing organization. Among them, the main business of drafting technology and Chinese online are both related to related to content generation.
From the perspective of the number of recruits, the gap between technical and non-technical positions is not large, 121 and 88 respectively. However, from the perspective of salary level, there are 87 technical talents with an annual salary of more than 500,000 yuan, accounting for about 74% of the total number of technical talents recruited, and only 39 non-technical positions with an annual salary of more than 500,000 yuan, accounting for 10% of the total. 46%. On the whole, technical experts are the focus of companies recruiting AIGC-related talents, and their "gold content" is higher.
From the perspective of enterprise type, the enterprises that have technical AIGC talent recruitment requirements cover a wide range of fields, including Baidu, ByteDance, Tencent, Kuaishou and other major Internet companies, as well as leading players in the consumer electronics field such as vivo and Huawei. Xiaohongshu Leading players in the field of social platforms, AI companies such as SenseTime, Yuncong Technology, and Singularity, as well as enterprises in vertical industries such as transportation and finance, etc.
In the recruitment of technical talents, many companies have released more than one job recruitment requirements.
ByteDance, a major Internet company, released the most positions, 6, including computer vision algorithm engineer, image algorithm engineer, AIGC algorithm engineer, etc., with an annual salary of 700,000 to 800,000 yuan.
The second largest company released 5 positions for Xiaoi Robot, mainly AIGC researchers, with salary levels ranging from RMB 700,000 to RMB 1,000,000. The company has developed its own Cognitive Intelligence Platform (CIAI), and has implemented applications in finance, urban public services, architecture, metaverse, manufacturing, and medical care.
In addition, TAL, the leading online education player in China, and Jobbang also released three recruitment requirements. TAL’s recruitment positions are AIGC technical experts and application experts, and Jobbang is for voice algorithm engineers and NLP algorithm engineers.
Online education companies have also joined the AIGC industry melee. Earlier this month, Xueersi, a subsidiary of TAL, revealed that the company is developing a self-developed mathematical model MathGPT, and will launch a product-level application based on the self-developed large model within this year.
It can be seen that the current recruitment demand for technical talents in the AIGC industry is biased towards job seekers who have rich work experience and can participate in project research immediately after joining the job.
03
Non-technical jobs become popular positions
Are heavy users of AI tools a must?
From the perspective of the demand side, the recruitment demand for technical positions has surged, but the most popular positions on the supply side are product managers, operations and other non-technical positions. Data from Lagou Recruitment shows that in the first quarter of 2023, the supply-demand ratio for product manager-related positions in the AIGC field can reach 58, while that for algorithm engineers is below 10.
As of May 9, there were 85 AIGC-related non-technical positions being recruited, and only 5 positions with an annual salary of more than one million yuan, namely Baidu, ByteDance and Bixin, all of which are related to AIGC products relevant. Among them, the highest number of positions are related to AIGC product managers, with 53 positions; the next category is AIGC application direction, such as creative design, with 17 positions; operation-related positions include user operations, new media operations, etc., with a total of 10 positions .
Among them, Baidu's recruitment needs cover a relatively rich range. The company released 7 non-technical recruitment needs, including 4 product managers in the direction of dialogue robots, AI drawing, AI tools, and 1 product operation manager, 1 AIGC creative direction positions. The salary ranges from 300,000 to 1.2 million yuan.
In addition, TAL released a recruitment position, which is AIGC-oriented primary school mathematics teaching and research, which may be related to the large mathematical model it is developing.
It is worth noting that, whether it is a technical or a non-technical recruitment position, many recruitment requirements will focus on being familiar with AIGC-related technologies and proficiency in using corresponding tools. Especially in the recruitment of creative design, the proficiency in the use of corresponding tools is required to be higher.
04
Beijing, the center of gravity of talents and enterprises in the field of AI, takes the lead in making efforts
The competition for talents in the domestic AIGC industry has entered a climax. At the policy level, governments around the world have also increased their support for the development of cutting-edge technologies.
At the beginning of May, the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry Innovation and Development Talent Summit Forum released Beijing's first artificial intelligence algorithm field specialized talent policy "Several Supporting Measures for the Implementation of Algorithmic Talent Gathering Actions to Create a "West Beijing Wisdom Valley"". Provide precise support for the innovation and entrepreneurship of artificial intelligence algorithm talents in 10 aspects including strong support.
Beijing, where the demand for talent recruitment in the AIGC industry is the strongest, is also the city with the most core technical talents and core enterprises in the AI field. The "White Paper on the Development of Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry in 2022" shows that Beijing has more than 40,000 core technical talents in the field of artificial intelligence, accounting for the country's 60%. There are 1,048 core artificial intelligence enterprises in Beijing, accounting for 29% of the national total.
At the same time, the Beijing government also took the lead in releasing support policies for ChatGPT-like technologies. As early as February 13 this year, the "White Paper on the Development of Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry in 2022" stated that Beijing will support leading companies to create large-scale models that are comparable to ChatGPT. Build an application ecosystem of open source frameworks and general large models.
On April 10, the government of Hangzhou High-tech Development Zone (Binjiang) Management Committee issued the "Notice on Several Policies to Promote the Innovation and Development of New Generation Artificial Intelligence and Promote the Construction of Industrial Ecology", proposing to strengthen the construction of talent ecology: support scientific research institutions and New R&D institutions cultivate and introduce artificial intelligence talent teams. In the "5050" plan, highlight the selection support for artificial intelligence talents. Those who meet the conditions will be supported by referring to the "Implementation Opinions on Strengthening and Improving Talent Work in the New Era to Promote Paradise Silicon Valley Talent Action".
Shanghai and Shenzhen have also announced the goals of the artificial intelligence industry before. Shanghai proposed to achieve more than 1,000 artificial intelligence companies in 2023, and the scale of the artificial intelligence industry will exceed 200 billion yuan. Shenzhen will have 20 leading enterprises in 2023. The industrial scale target exceeds 30 billion yuan.
05
Conclusion: The generative AI competition has started
The changes brought about by generative AI have led to a blowout growth in the number of jobs in this field, and the demand for talent recruitment has ushered in an explosive period. Now is the critical period when domestic players are competing to release generative AI products and large-scale models. The importance of talents is self-evident, so this wave of competition will continue for a while.
At present, the training of talents in the field of generative AI is still immature in China. In the future, as schools and institutions carry out targeted training of generative AI talents, it may be expected to improve the imbalance between supply and demand in this field.
As a programmer, many people have an inexplicable misunderstanding, which is called "a programmer with an annual salary of less than one million is not a good programmer". In fact, an annual salary of one million is quite rare in groups with technical backgrounds.
Compared with those "success learning" of entrepreneurs who earn tens of millions of dollars a year, 100offer is more curious about how a person with a technical background can reach a million dollars a year by relying on his own strength and career choice. Therefore, we counted 20+ candidates with technical backgrounds and tried to find out the common secret behind their annual salary of one million.
illustrate:
Here, the annual salary of one million means that the pre-tax work income exceeds one million yuan. Including base + bonus + options (successfully exercised or cashed out) + market value of tradable stocks held.
Source of sample statistics: Participate in resume presentations on 100offer, technical candidates whose current annual salary exceeds one million (accounting for less than 1% of job seekers on the platform), and cases of candidates directly or indirectly contacted by high-end headhunters.
1. When did they realize their million-dollar annual salary?
The average age of these 20+ million-dollar technicians is 34.5 years old, and most of them are over 30 years old. There are only two technical people under the age of 30 who have endured wealth and handsomeness that should not be deserved at this age by working for famous overseas companies or starting a business while in college. They all showed their enthusiasm and talent for technology when they were young. What's more, they all won the mathematics or programming Olympiad, and they were recommended to be the "student masters" of the top 3 famous schools in China.
Let's use a picture below to help you understand the differences between technical people of all ages who have achieved a million-dollar annual salary.
2. What career paths are there to achieve a million-dollar annual salary?
Where are the candidates earning millions a year, and how do they cross this high salary threshold? From the perspective of the company and current position, it can be roughly divided into the following types of paths.
1. BAT Internet giant: Ali P8 and above
The salary structure of Internet giants has matured. In addition to the basic annual salary and performance bonus, starting from middle and high-level employees, the salary income includes RSU (Restricted Stock Units) issued year by year. As a listed company, as long as the employees are working during the stock distribution period, they will Cashing out RSUs is relatively easy.
Employees with an annual salary of one million in the direction of BAT technology are basically T3-3 and above in Tencent, P8 and above in Ali, and T7 and above in Baidu. The proportion of cash and stock given by each company is also different. Taking Baidu as an example, the T5 engineer package generally includes 350,000/year cash and up to 22% stocks; T8 has about 800,000-1 million/year cash and 30-35% stocks.
For a technical expert with an annual salary of one million, what responsibilities should he undertake in his work? Taking Ali as an example, more than 70% of the employees are below P7, and the difficulty of crossing from P7 to P8 can be imagined. The difference between the two is that P7 is independently responsible for a module, giving appropriate guidance to P6, and has high technical ability; while P8 needs to undertake technical management functions and be responsible for a whole business line. Candidates must have rich industry experience and sense of smell, and possess global perspective. If the management ability is mediocre, the technology should reach the expert level.
There is a technical candidate named W with an annual salary of one million. He returned from the US headquarters of a foreign company through a 100 offer and joined a BAT company. His rank level is equivalent to Ali's P8. The reason why he was able to get this high-paying offer is that he had the opportunity to be transferred from a domestic branch of a foreign company to an overseas training experience in the early years, mastered the core technology that the domestic R&D department could not touch, and had comprehensive capabilities from the bottom to the upstream of the terminal equipment. experience of. This is not only W's exclusive technical barrier, but also the business map that this BAT company urgently needs to supplement.
There are also candidates who joined BAT at an early stage and achieved an annual salary of one million through internal promotion. This group of people is often in the core business department, has enough time to accumulate technology in key projects, and can produce self-breaking results in every promotion interval. Appropriate superior leadership and opportunities are also very important.
2. Start-up or unicorn company: CTO, chief architect, etc.
For technical people who choose a high-risk, high-yield entrepreneurial route, an annual salary of one million is a gift given to them by the current situation and long-term vision.
There is a big gap in work experience and age between this group of people. They basically joined the company when its personnel structure was simple in the early stage of the company’s founding (generally before the A round), and the annual salary composition has a larger proportion of options or original shares.
Some candidates have been above the middle level in other companies (such as technology leaders), accumulated high-quality industry contacts and reputation, and then entered startup companies, building technical teams from scratch, and becoming independent technical partners.
There are also some lucky ones who joined the unicorns at the start-up stage as development managers or even first-line engineers as early as the first three years of work. Thanks to the rapid growth of the company under the wind, they eventually cashed out the options through the company's later financing, stock repurchase at the time of acquisition, or selling in the open market after listing, and they can bring Come to a one-time multi-million-level income.
Paul is an example of "getting rich" through entrepreneurship. In his 7th year of work, Paul resigned from the position of technical leader of a text mining enterprise-level product to start a business, became a technical partner of an education start-up company, and has been personally involved in the front-line code development work. Since the word memorization function of the product needs to be based on the technical basis of semantic understanding, this is in the same line as his accumulation in the NLP field. After four or five years of starting a business, when he was about to enter his 40s, he achieved an annual salary of one million through two rounds of financing from this elite team of less than 10 people.
For candidates who choose to start a business, the more early-stage the company is, the more it depends on the individual's technical strength and ability to withstand pressure. At the same time, they must have the awareness of not being complacent about the status quo and thinking about company strategies outside their own responsibilities. The most critical thing is the investment circle, the breadth of the network of partners, the forward-looking vision and the timing of entering the company.
3. Leading enterprises in subdivided fields: technical director
There are also some candidates with an annual salary of one million in the technical direction, who serve as technical directors in the technology development departments of traditional industries such as finance and real estate, or in vertical fields such as data enterprise-level services. Their annual salary basically consists of real cash, plus 8-12 months of year-end bonus; they need to lead a team of more than 20 people, and have management experience in BAT, Ping An, Fosun, or well-known foreign companies in subdivided fields.
The key success factors for taking this route are: outstanding personal business ability, continuous accumulation of technology in the same vertical field, intensive cultivation of high-quality network resources and reputation in the industry.
For example, K joined an enterprise-level service company in his third year of work and became the R&D manager of the public opinion monitoring product line. Since then, with an average job-hopping speed of once every 2-3 years, he has continued to focus on technical management in the direction of public opinion in Hong Kong companies, German companies and well-known domestic commercial banks, and has accumulated high-quality industry resources and technical capabilities. 400,000 for senior R&D managers, gradually rising to 600,000 for R&D directors. In the end, K moved to a well-known investment group as the technical director, taking on the management responsibilities in the field of public opinion, and successfully achieved a million annual salary within two years, his 10th year of work.
4. Famous overseas companies and startups in Silicon Valley: technical manager, architect or chief engineer
Even if the income is in foreign exchange, in the circle of overseas Chinese engineers, the annual salary equivalent to one million yuan is still at the middle and high level. Whether they participate in local school recruitment after studying abroad, or go abroad after accumulating certain work experience in China, most of these high-paying candidates have work experience endorsement from internationally renowned Internet companies.
In addition, we found that joining a Silicon Valley start-up company after graduating from an overseas university can break through the annual salary of one million the fastest. For example, Mr. Z, the candidate, has quickly accumulated the full-stack development and management experience of a small team in Silicon Valley at the speed of changing a company within 4-5 years. Only the cash part has reached an annual salary of one million RMB, plus an option of 15k US dollars. .
5. Algorithms, AI, machine learning and other popular fields: research talents
Expert talents in algorithm research and machine learning are hard to find. Companies in the market that pay millions of dollars for them include the headquarters of Google, Microsoft, and Facebook in the first tier, BAT and TMD in the second tier, and unicorns in various AI segments, such as Face++ and SenseTime Technology, HKUST Xunfei, etc.
This group of candidates who are in the industry bonus period has extremely high academic background and professional threshold, but they can achieve an annual salary of one million faster. Compared with starting a business, the uncertainty of income is almost negligible.
In the field of artificial intelligence, the salary of an algorithm director-level candidate who has graduated from a master’s degree for 8 years or a doctor’s degree for 5 years is generally higher than 1.5 million in the current market. If you are a research talent from a top laboratory of a world-renowned machine learning laboratory, or have a paper published in a well-known journal or top conference, and have a certain influence in the industry before entering an enterprise, you are likely to obtain a higher rank and authority. An annual salary of one million is a very high probability event.
100offer says
It has to be admitted that behind the many myths of annual salary of millions, some people do have talents, but more people's career starting points are not high. The workplace, like life, is facilitated by countless choices, opportunities, personal efforts, and even accidental events.
There is no standard answer for the path to achieve a million-dollar annual salary, but from the experience of the predecessors, we can somewhat summarize the commonality of objective conditions: the long-term precipitation of representative projects, suitable opportunities and leadership, the competitiveness of personal technical capabilities and Exclusivity, and long-term development space for the company's team.
In essence, wealth is just a subsidiary indicator to test the speed of personal growth. 100offer hopes that programmers can have better career development, upgrade and fight monsters, and at the same time achieve the small goal of "earn one million first".
