On January 8, 1976, Premier Zhou, who had devoted his whole life to the country, passed away in Beijing.
This news made people across the country feel sad, and shortly thereafter, the memorial service for Premier Zhou started as scheduled.
Leaders at all levels of the central government came to see him off for the last time, but when the memorial service started as scheduled, something puzzling and shocking happened suddenly.
Comrade Soong Ching Ling, who was then the honorary chairman of the All-China Women's Federation, suddenly left angrily in the middle of the memorial service.
Just when the leaders were puzzled, not long after the meeting, they heard shocking news.
Comrade Song Qingling suddenly announced: I want to resign! I quit!
What happened at that meeting? What made Comrade Soong Ching Ling leave angrily in the middle of the memorial service for her long-time friend Premier Zhou? Why did she resign?
In fact, it all starts with Soong Ching Ling's character.
Soong Ching Ling's Personality
When the name Soong Ching Ling is mentioned, I believe it is easy to think of Mr. Sun Yat-sen and the Republic of China.
Soong Ching Ling, a heroine with advanced thinking, was born on January 27, 1893 in a pastor's industrial family in Shanghai.
Her father, Song Jiashu, was a close friend of Dr. Sun Yat-sen when he was young, and also a comrade with great patriotism.
When Song Qingling was young, she grew up under the democratic and progressive thought of her father Song Jiashu.
Because of the favorable family conditions, Soong Ching Ling's study career was almost always carried out in prestigious schools, and her father Song Jiashu even sent her to study in the United States.
As early as when she was young, Soong Ching Ling admired Mr. Sun Yat-sen's "democratic" thought, and has always supported it.
In 1913, Soong Ching Ling graduated from the Wesleyan Women's College in the United States, and then stayed with Dr. Sun Yat-sen as a secretary.
During the days when she worked beside Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Soong Ching Ling was loyal, respectful, modest and prudent.
After getting along day and night, Soong Ching Ling was gradually attracted by this revolutionary leader with democratic revolutionary feelings, and the two formed a revolutionary partner in a foreign country in 1915.
After becoming a couple, Soong Ching Ling began to participate in a number of manifesto activities with historic influence, and brilliantly undertook the heavy daily work of sorting out documents, and became Mr. Sun Yat-sen's right-hand man.
In 1916, Soong Ching Ling followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen back to China from Japan, and later defended the idea of "separation of five powers" under the influence of her husband. She used her influence to help Mr. Sun Yat-sen oppose imperialism and feudal warlords in words and deeds.
But the good times didn't last long. In March 1925, Mr. Sun Yat-sen died of illness in Beijing.
At this point, Soong Ching Ling began to inherit Mr. Sun Yat-sen's last wish with her own knowledge and experience, and once again defended the new Three People's Principles and implemented the three major policies.
In terms of personality, Soong Ching Ling has always belonged to the type who will definitely do it as long as she looks for it. This can be seen in her choice of marriage and devotion to the revolution.
At that time, Mr. Sun Yat-sen fell in love with Soong Ching Ling, and Soong Ching Ling also liked Mr. Sun, so Sun Yat-sen wrote to his friend Song Jiashu to inform him of his appeal.
But Song Jiashu was furious after hearing this. He couldn't accept his well-bred daughter to marry this old friend who was 27 years older than her.
Therefore, Song Qingling's family did not agree with her marriage in the early stage. For this reason, Song Jiashu even locked her daughter who came back to intercede at home.
However, Soong Ching Ling has a strong temper, as long as it is something she is sure about, she will continue to do it no matter what.
In this way, despite her family's opposition, she sneaked to Japan and married Sun Yat-sen.
Until the death of Mr. Sun in 1925, Soong Ching Ling still chose to continue to devote herself to the revolution with her husband's beliefs, all of which were inseparable from her own character.
But Soong Ching Ling is actually a very courageous heroine. As early as 1922, the rebels were in turmoil and the political platform was unstable. Chen Jiongming led the rebels to surround the presidential palace.
When the situation was critical, Soong Ching Ling said to Sun Yat-sen: "China can live without me, but it must have you."
She chose to stay by herself to attract and contain the rebel army, and she was not afraid of life and death, showing extraordinary courage at critical moments.
Premier Zhou and Soong Ching Ling's Friendship
Premier Zhou and Soong Ching Ling met in the 1920s, when Sun Yat-sen had just passed away, and Soong Ching Ling met the young Premier Zhou for the first time in Guangzhou in the middle of the 20th century.
In her later memoirs, she recalled Premier Zhou in this way, "Premier Zhou was still very young at that time, but he was already a very good leader."
At that time, after Mr. Sun Yat-sen died of illness, Soong Ching Ling continued to devote himself to the Great Revolution with the revolutionary ideals left by Mr. Sun, and thus got acquainted with Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou.
During the conversation, she was attracted by the democratic ideology of the Communist Party, and began to feel that the ideology of the Communist Party coincided with what she was pursuing.
After that, Soong Ching Ling began the process of contacting the Communist Party. Because both parties are leaders of various party departments, and Soong Ching Ling admired Premier Zhou's thoughts very much, so a revolutionary friendship was planted in this way.
In the 1930s, Soong Ching Ling was in a very difficult situation during this period. The Kuomintang people monitored her 24 hours a day, but she still insisted on joining the revolution and found an opportunity to pass the news to the liaison office of the underground party organization.
Later, under Soong Ching Ling's arrangement and coordination, he helped the Communist Party complete another historic event.
That was American reporter Snow's interview in northern Shaanxi. After Snow entered the Soviet area and completed the historic interview, he brought "Red Stars Over China" to the world.
Let the people of the world have a preliminary understanding and understanding of the Red Army and the miraculous 25,000-mile Long March of the Red Army, and all of this is inseparable from the help of Soong Ching Ling.
During the decades of struggle between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Soong Ching Ling also helped the underground comrades of the Communist Party escape smoothly many times.
Later, on the eve of the Anti-Japanese War, she said, "Cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party is very necessary."
At that time, Japan was pressing every step of the way and wanted to invade China. In July 1937, Premier Zhou and others were going to Lushan to negotiate with Chiang Kai-shek, and they came to visit Soong Ching Ling while passing through Shanghai.
During the conversation, Premier Zhou informed Soong Ching Ling of the policy of going abroad together, and Soong Ching Ling immediately expressed her attitude, "You are right, we should stop the civil war and go abroad together."
Therefore, in this national crisis, she used her special identity as an intermediary, which contributed to the establishment of the anti-Japanese national united front.
During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Soong Ching Ling also worked hard to contact overseas rescue forces and sent medicines and supplies to the Chinese front many times, which won the Chinese people more support from people all over the world. Made great contributions during the Anti-Japanese War.
During these decades of career, Soong Ching Ling established profound friendship with many leaders in the Communist Party, especially with Premier Zhou.
Therefore, at the end of the War of Liberation, that is, on the eve of the founding of New China, after discussing with Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou sent a telegram to Soong Ching Ling in the name of a joint name, intending to invite this friend to work in Beijing.
The telegram wrote, "The Chinese revolution is coming to an end. How is the environment in Shanghai? The new Political Consultative Conference is held in North China. The Chinese people's revolution has gone through untold hardships. Mr. Sun's will has not yet been realized. Now I would like to ask Mr. Sun to come to Beijing." , participate in the great cause of building for the people, and apply your leadership skills to the building. But remember to be safe on the road."
This telegram made Soong Ching Ling feel warm, but she didn't agree immediately. At this time, she thought of the sadness of her husband's death in Beijing, and couldn't help but hesitate for a while.
A few months later, in May 1949, Shanghai was finally liberated, and Soong Ching Ling was finally able to participate in activities in Shanghai in an open capacity.
On June 19 of the same year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided that Deng Yingchao would pick up Soong Ching Ling to go north. So Comrade Deng Yingchao went to Shanghai with invitation letters from Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou.
After seeing Soong Ching Ling, Comrade Deng Yingchao handed over the letter. Soong Ching Ling took a look at the letter and saw that it said:
"It has been nearly three years since the last farewell. Whenever Chiang Kai-shek is rampant, I hope that Mr. will be safe. Now that Shanghai is liberated, this makes everyone in the country happy, and I am very relieved. Now that victory is imminent, I hope Mr. To be able to come to Beijing for construction work. Let Yingchao come to greet you in person now, I hope you can think about it, please come. If you can come, it is really a great fortune for China."
Beijing is the place where Mr. Sun Yat-sen died, but now that the new China is about to be born, Premier Zhou and others kindly invited him. After some thinking, Soong Ching Ling decided to go to Beijing.
On September 1 of this year, Soong Ching Ling arrived in Beijing as scheduled and started her career as a leader.
On the 21st of the same month, Soong Ching Ling was elected as the Vice President of the People's Republic of China and undertook many government affairs. In the days of national construction, she established a deeper working friendship with Premier Zhou.
China's first foreign publication "China Construction" was the result of negotiations between Premier Zhou and Soong Ching Ling.
At that time, less than two years after the founding of New China, it encountered the blockade of imperialism. Considering Soong Ching Ling's influence in the world, Premier Zhou negotiated with her and wanted her to create a publication to spread the word abroad. The true national conditions of China.
So in the following year, at the beginning of 1952, "China Construction" was founded. In the news transmission work, Premier Zhou often came to guide and visit the news work.
Afterwards, Premier Zhou gave more in-depth guidance to news editorial work, admonishing journalists to "take life as the main content and socialism as the scope, report the achievements since the founding of New China correctly, positively, and reflect the new atmosphere."
On January 8, 1976, Premier Zhou passed away. Soong Ching Ling also wrote an article to commemorate Premier Zhou, in which she wrote,
"Premier Zhou is great, and it is reasonable for the people to love him. This is not only because he is a great revolutionary, but also because he is full of true democratic spirit. He always unites all who can be united, He defeated all enemies, and he will always be an example for us to learn from..."
Soong Ching Ling attended the memorial service and caused a storm of resignation
As early as a few months before the death of Premier Zhou, Soong Ching Ling heard the news that Premier Zhou was seriously ill, but because she couldn't bear to see her old friend's sick state, and because she was old and unable to move, she didn't personally to see him.
Although she didn't go to the hospital to visit Premier Zhou in person, Soong Ching Ling still missed him very much.
At the beginning of the year, Song Qingling accidentally learned that pigeon eggs were rich in nutritional value, so she asked someone to send the eggs of her own pigeons to Premier Zhou.
Prior to this, Soong Ching Ling had sent fish to Premier Zhou many times to supplement nutrition, which shows the deep friendship between the two.
One month later, on January 8, 1976, Premier Zhou passed away.
It didn't take long for Premier Zhou's memorial service to start as scheduled. Although Soong Ching Ling usually keeps a low profile, this is a memorial service for a friend of decades, and Soong Ching Ling still intends to send her friend off for the last time.
But not long after the memorial service started, something happened that made her very angry. In the middle of the meeting, she overheard someone whispering, and when she listened carefully, the two of them were talking about her.
I saw the two people said with the mentality of watching the gossip, "I heard that Chairman Song did something very inappropriate. When I visited Premier Zhou's body, I didn't know why I was so relieved."
The two of them talked more and more vigorously, and they didn't even notice that what they said had already been heard by Soong Ching Ling.
Comrade Soong Ching Ling is not a character who suffers grievances silently. Although she usually acts in a low-key manner and doesn't care about other people's opinions, but someone even talked about it in front of her. How can she bear it.
Soong Ching Ling couldn't listen anymore, and immediately slapped her hands heavily on the table, the two of them realized that what they were talking about was overheard by the person concerned, and they immediately regretted it.
Soong Ching Ling was very angry at the moment. She glanced at the two of them, but thought that this was a memorial service for a friend, so she didn't say anything serious, but she couldn't hold back the anger in her heart, so she walked out with the support of the secretary, and left The memorial service is not yet over.
In fact, the anger didn't just come from the two people's discussions. As early as a few days ago, Soong Ching Ling was angry once because of visiting her friend Zhou Enlai.
A few days ago, then Premier Zhou was still in the farewell room of the hospital. After hearing the news of her friend's death, Soong Ching Ling finally decided to bid farewell to Premier Zhou's body with her old body.
On the day of farewell, the elderly Soong Ching Ling, accompanied by her secretary, took her adopted daughters Sui Yongqing and Sui Yongjie to the farewell room of the hospital, and said a final farewell to Premier Zhou.
But after the four of them went back, Soong Ching Ling heard some rumors. It turned out that someone expressed dissatisfaction with her behavior in the hospital. Those people said that she shouldn't have brought two irrelevant outsiders to bid farewell to Premier Zhou.
Soong Ching Ling thought it was unreasonable when she heard it.
Song Qingling, who was always impatient, said excitedly, "That's my daughter, why is she an outsider? At my age, can I let my daughter help me? Besides, Premier Zhou also watched them grow up. Can't they just say goodbye?
In this way, in just a few days, due to the rumors that were spread wildly, Soong Ching Ling was waved in front of the Lord twice, which made Soong Ching Ling very puzzled and angry, and finally left the scene in the middle of the memorial service.
Soong Ching Ling, who was in a fit of anger, returned home and said loudly, "I quit! Who are they? I did my best to work for the country and for women, but in the end I had to be criticized by others."
After Soong Ching Ling finished speaking, she slumped on the sofa without saying a word.
After a while, Soong Ching Ling calmed down and said to the secretary, "Forget it, I am so old, and it is time to retire. I will go back to Shanghai to retire."
Soong Ching Ling, who always said to go and go, always did what she said, resigned and left Beijing immediately, and returned to Shanghai.
During the year after returning to Shanghai, although Soong Ching Ling was in Shanghai, she still missed the construction of the motherland very much.
During this period, many central leaders sent her invitations to continue working. So after a year, Soong Ching Ling, who could not let go of the country, finally returned to Beijing at the invitation of the central leaders and continued to work.
During the decades of Soong Ching Ling's construction for the motherland, she used her influence and belief to help the Chinese people get rid of suffering.
It can be said that the birth of New China is inseparable from this heroine, and the development after its birth is even more inseparable from her dedication. Let us express our most sincere thanks to her!
